AI use and disclaimer
Where Lamp uses AI, how AI output is marked, and why Lamp's reports are not patent or legal advice.
In plain words
- Lamp's chat answers and reports are written by AI models, not by a person.
- Every report says that it is AI-generated, may contain errors and is not legal advice.
- Lamp checks quoted passages against the patent text and marks patent numbers it could not verify.
- To do this, Lamp sends your research content to AI model providers.
- Check every finding before you rely on it.
This summary helps you find your way. The numbered sections below are the full text.
Where Lamp uses AI#
Lamp uses large language models run by other companies to answer your questions in the chat, to write reports and to compare documents.
Answers in Lamp’s chat are written by an AI model, not by a person. Lamp says so at sign-in, at the bottom of every page and in every report.
What the AI models receive#
For each task, Lamp sends the text that task needs to an AI model provider: your question or message, the invention you described in the chat as the subject, and passages from patent documents. The provider sends the generated text back to Lamp.
Lamp sends each request to an AI gateway, which passes it to a company that hosts the chosen model. The Privacy Policy lists both.
With each request, Lamp tells the gateway to use only a host that keeps no prompts and does not collect your data. Four models in Lamp’s model list have no such host: Qwen3.8 Max Prime, Qwen3.8 Max, Qwen3.8 Flash and GLM 5.3 Prime. The model list marks them with the note “Provider may retain your data”, and their hosts may keep what Lamp sends and use it to train their models. We do not use your research content to train AI models.
Two other services receive text from your research, through the AI gateway. When Lamp looks for patents similar to your invention, it uses a web search service, with English search words that the AI model derives from your brief; the web search service never receives the brief itself, and it may keep the search words. To sort search results, Lamp sends your question and the description of your invention to a search-ranking service, which may keep them for 30 days and may use them to train its models.
How we handle personal data in this process is explained in the Privacy Policy.
How AI output is marked#
Every Lamp report carries this notice:
This report is AI-generated and may contain errors. It does not constitute legal advice. Verify all findings independently.
If you publish text from Lamp to inform the public, the law may require you to say that it was generated by AI, unless a person has reviewed it and takes editorial responsibility for it (Art. 50(4) EU AI Act).
Checks Lamp runs#
Lamp checks each quoted passage in a report against the text of the patent it cites. A passage it finds is marked as verified. A passage it cannot find is marked as quote not found.
Lamp also marks patent numbers it could not verify.
These checks catch some errors, not all. A verified quote can still be read or applied wrongly, and a report can miss relevant documents.
Not patent or legal advice#
Lamp is a research tool. Its reports and chat answers are not patent or legal advice, and using Lamp does not create a client relationship with MatGen or anyone else.
AI output can be wrong, incomplete or out of date. Before you rely on a finding, check it against the source it cites. For a decision about a patent, such as filing, opposing or assessing infringement, consult a qualified patent attorney.
You decide what to do with Lamp’s output, and you are responsible for that decision. Our Terms of Service set out our liability.
